My Raspberry Pi is not working correctly

Raspberry pi connection and display issue troubleshooting.

If your Raspberry Pi is not working correctly there are a few simple steps you can take to attempt a resolution. Symptoms of problems can include:

  • Display not updating when your data has changed.
  • Display resolution is too big/small for the screen it is connected to.
  • Display is black or out of sync colors.

Most of these issues can be fixed by rebooting your Raspberry Pi. There are a few steps that should be performed in the correct order to ensure proper startup of your pi.

Perform a fast reboot of your Raspberry Pi

In most cases, a fast reboot of just the Raspberry Pi unit will solve your issue. That can be performed simply by doing the following:

  1. Disconnect the power. This can either be done on the Raspberry Pi (unit) itself, or by unplugging the other end of the power cable from the wall.
  2. Wait 10-15 seconds to allow any power stored in capacitors to drain.
  3. Make sure the TV power is on before moving to the next step.
  4. Connect the power back to the unit.

It is very important to make sure the TV is on and connected to the Raspberry Pi in the above rebooting steps to allow the unit to detect the TV and set the correct resolution.

If those steps did not resolve the issue, you may need to do a full reboot cycle of your Raspberry Pi.

If rebooting your pi does not work, please contact support. Please describe the issue that you are seeing and provide the serial number of the Raspberry Pi unit that you're having issues with. That number can be found on a white sticker on the physical unit itself and will start with the letters pi-. (example pi-1234) to help us troubleshoot the issue as quickly as possible.
